I’ve been thinking about falling in love…

Jan 15, 2019

As an apple tree among the trees of the forest, so is my beloved among young men.
Song of Solomon 2:3a (ESV)

Because I have teenage granddaughters, I wrote this piece to help them know what to look for in a relationship. It warms my heart each time I review it. I hope it does yours, as well.

When you fall in love, fall in love deeply.

Fall in love with someone whose face lights up when you enter the room—who is utterly smitten with you—someone who is eager to touch your mind, your soul and your body.

Fall in love with someone who desires to know every significant event in your past and your hopes and dreams for the future—who understands that you are a gift from the hand of God.

Fall in love with the one who makes the world disappear when you are with them—the one you miss terribly the moment they are out of sight—and no matter how hard you try—you cannot get them out of your mind.

When you fall in love, fall in love completely.

Fall in love with everything about your special someone—their eyes, smile, scent, the way they walk—the sound of their voice—favorite foods, books, movies and TV programs—what makes them laugh—or cry—or pound the table.

Fall in love with the one you want to run to with everything you encounter—the one who is always there to listen—the one who gets just as excited as you are or simply encourages you to keep going.

Fall in love with someone who cares deeply about your well-being—who makes you feel like you do not have to be afraid anymore.

When you fall in love, fall in love forever.

Respect the one who completes you—your best friend, confidant and companion—the one you want to go to sleep with each evening and wake up with each morning for the rest of your life.

Choose to fall in love over and over again many times with your special someone—because you have been struck by love—and you will never be the same.

When you fall in love, stay in love forever.
