I’ve been thinking about scrunching in…

Jun 1, 2022

But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.”
John 5:17 (ESV)

draw closer to the LORDWho knew “scrunching” could be so entertaining? I didn’t until I did a little research. I found my favorite definition in the Urban Dictionary: casual cuddling with a significant other that escalates! I laughed when I read that definition because I heard the word “scrunch” in a church service recently when the person on the platform asked us to move toward the middle of our rows to accommodate people flooding through the doors. Of course in this context, scrunching meant squeezing together! My questions is: Could “scrunching” be a spiritual activity?

And the answer is—Yes! Redeemer Bible Church in Gilbert Arizona is undergoing an immense amount of growth. In this context “scrunching in” is indeed a supernatural activity because God is entrusting the leadership with many believers who are looking for accurate verse-by-verse expositional teaching from God’s Word.

In the past you may have worked through Experiencing God by Henry & Richard Blackaby and Claude King. Like me, you may remember that the one idea that keeps coming back is: “Watch to see where God is working and join Him.” The Scripture above reminds us that God is always working in this world, so we must stay alert and discern where and when to join Him when He calls us to work with Him.

In this way we are simply following the example of Jesus. Our Lord said He was listening to His Father in Heaven, and He would pattern His earthly ministry on what He saw His Father doing. In other words, where God was working in the lives and souls of people around Him—that’s where Jesus wanted to go. Those were the people Jesus wanted to touch.

Henry Blackaby goes on to add: “We don’t choose what we will do for God; He invites us to join Him where He wants to involve us.” The Holy Spirit will show us where God is at work. Once we notice where He is working, we can choose to adjust our lives and join Him in His work. With that thought in mind, is it “scrunch time” for you?
